Writing Is Hard Work

I love to write. It's always something that has come easy to me. I aced it in english classes thru out school. I was helping Isaiah write an essay for geography recently and thought "Wow, I really like doing this. And it's easy."

Then I try to blog or even fill out my profile on a social website and I think "Wow, this is really hard."

I read a lot of blogs (more than I have time for, really, but I love to read more than I love to write) and some of those blogs are pretty awesome. I was thinking about it today as I was catching up on Wil Wheaton's blogs that I had let accumulate. He is a professional writer. He has a couple of books in print and his blog plus he writes for an LA paper. And it shows in his blog. It's interesting, entertaining, researched, well thought out and compelling.

And I realized this didn't just happen to him. He worked hard to be such a great writer. And if I want writing to go from something I just do in a blog or journal on occasion to something that I can be proud of that is the work of a professional it's going to require me to work at it.

Because writing is fun and easy and essential to me, but to be great it will take practice and work. So I'm working at it.

Minutia and not so much

I usually get up and turn off the computer around 11 or midnight. I read a couple of blogs, check my emails, and then shut down the computer. So I'm getting ready to do that, reading one of my favorite blogs, Jen Lemen, and realize I never blogged today.

I am joining ACN as a representative. I have a friend who has a relative that is doing very well. I love network marketing and still am planning on selling the best vitamins and minerals made by New Vision. But I've been planning that for so long that it's lost it's spark. So I'm selling video phones and signing up other people who want their own business. If you're interested then email me.

Super Mario

My son purchased Super Mario Land for his Wii. This brings back memories. I can't believe I used to have time to play this for hours. Of course now I spend hours reading blogs instead. It's always a choice.

I seem to gravitate towards people who are workaholics or close to it and I've always thought that was because it's a trait I admire. If I could just have a bit of that work ethic I would be a more productive, happier person.

I read Echo-Moon Lake this week. It's a graphic novel. There must be sequels. That the library doesn't carry. I like graphic novels. It's adult comic book reading. Of course I like comic books, too.

I was listening to The Essential Simon and Garfunkel today. I like the old stuff. Maybe because I'm old.

I'm not watching any new TV shows. I tried The Chopping Block but didn't really like it.

Busy Wednesdays

I realized tonight that Wednesdays are my busiest day of the week.

On Mon, Wed and Fri I go to the fitness center and work out. If my Mike goes to his physical therapy. Otherwise I stay with him. So I'm busy in the  morning up until I leave, get home around noon, then leave by 4 to go pick up my Tabitha from her after school program. We get home about 5:30 and then it's all my evening and night stuff.

I've been doing my blogging late at night when I remember. Which works for me anyway. I am naturally a night person and would prefer to be awake at night and sleep during the day except that doesn't seem to work with the rest of the world's schedule.

As a side note, I'm already doing a bit better in my work outs. So I'm sure if I keep it up it will get easier and I can step it up some and see some progress.

365 Days In A Row

No, I haven't written 365 blog posts in a row. That would be cool and quite an accomplishment but I haven't done it. Seth Godin has I think.

One of the blogs I read was mentioning a photography project called 365. You are supposed to take and post a picture everyday for 365 days. She is just starting. And her question was what do you want to do 365 days in a row?

First I thought take a nap. But I pretty much already do that and it's losing it's thrill. Then I thought write every day. Which I should do because that's what all successful writers do. (Did you read the 10,000 hour theory in Malcolm Gladwell's new book Outliers?)

Then I realized that what I would like to do is give a presentation every day to someone or a group of someones for a year. I would totally love that. I have a couple of subjects I would like to talk about.

I think that would make me really happy.

Library Books

First, I didn't post wed because I had a weird week. I had an epiphany about myself which took almost all week to get to and it was exhausting.

Today I went to the fitness center and worked out. Starting slow and steady and continuing. Then I went to the library and picked up the books I had reserved. For some reason about twenty books came in all at once. Since I'm reading one book every two or three weeks or so so this will only take me about 10 months to read. Not really. Some are things like cookbooks, just books to browse through, some I'll be disappointed in and return immediately, some I'll be bored with and return without reading or finishing. Some I'll return and recheck out later to put some more time into, or buy it from Barnes and Noble if it's really good.

In the meantime I'm still reading Jaguar Knights, almost done now and I started a new book but it's one I own so I'm going to put it on hold while I figure out which library books I want to read.

Watching a lot of reality right now. Survivor, America's Next Top Model, Amazing Race. Something new called The Chopping Block.

No music at the moment but listening to Armstrong And Getty in the mornings through my internet.

Boy, Am I Out of Shape

I signed up at the fitness center last mon. Went for my orientation last wed. Skipped Fri because I woke up with a migraine.

So really today was my first day. I was able to do 6 min on the walker thingy. Not a treadmill. It has these things you step on that go up and down, you can go forward or back. Not a stairstepper either. I'm not doing the treadmill or bike because I walk and/or ride my bike everyday. Which is why I weigh 200 lbs. instead of 300. Probably.

Then I went to the machines and couldn't remember how to do a couple of them and since I was already hot and sweaty and tired, I know, pathetic, huh?, I decided to call it quits and come back Wed.

What I need to know and believe is that if I keep doing this every mon, wed, and fri that I will be able to do more, and I'll see a difference in my body.

The three things I'm working on. My fat stomach, my skinny upper body muscles, and my weight.

My fat stomach and my weight are related altho I do have to do some ab work since all my muscles are pretty much spaghetti noodles. Cooked spaghetti noodles. Over cooked spaghetti noodles, not even al dente.

Friday's Post

Leverage is by the far the best show on tv right now. I may have mentioned this. New episodes coming this summer.

Also watching Survivor, Amazing Race, watching the first episode of the season of Celebrity Apprentice and the first episode of the season of America's Next Top Model this weekend. And there's a new episode of Being Erica.

I'm reading Jaguar Knights, another book in the King's Blades series. Also still reading Refuse to Choose by Barbara Sher. Slowly.

Currently listening to the Beatles. Again.

Fitness Center

I joined 24 Hr Fitness. It's fairly cheap and it's convenient. I haven't seriously worked out in years. I'm a little nervous.

I am working towards some weight loss, a flatter stomach, and some strength training. Especially upper body. My butt and thighs are fat, too, but that doesn't bother me as much.

Tastes Like Chicken

Why doesn't turkey taste like chicken? Everything tastes like chicken. Rabbits, rattlesnakes, humans, supposedly everytime you eat something new you say "huh, tastes like chicken." So why doesn't turkey taste like chicken? It looks like a big chicken. Sort of. It looks more like a chicken than a rattlesnake or a rabbit.

And what about cows. Why don't buffalos taste like cows?
