I ran into an old guy (he looked homeless or at the least that he'd been having some very hard times) on public transportation today. I was polite when he spoke to me so he took that as an invitation for a conversation. He was complaining about how much state workers get paid.
Way too much as far as he's concerned. And us taxpayers pay their wages. I really don't think he has a job, I would imagine he's on some sort of public assistance, altho I wasn't rude enough to ask him. After he complained a while and I mildly responded, disagreeing without being disagreeable, I got tired of it.
So I said something to the effect that I believe we all create the world we live in. I don't want to make $50 driving a garbage truck (that was part of his complaint, how much garbage men make) but if it sounds good to him why doesn't he go do it. We are in control of our destinies, our life is our choice, and we are living it the way we choose and want to. I love my life and wouldn't trade it for one of those "high paying state jobs."
He stopped talking to me and started reading his newspaper for a few minutes. Then he started complaining again, saying the same thing over. I guess the idea that the life he's living, or the non-life he's not living, is his choice was a bit much for him.
What about you? Do you like the life you've chosen to live?
Carol
